the one about blog skins

so this week was all about skins. not the one that gets burned by UV rays, but blog skins. im listing down my must see sites to go to when you want to look for new skins for your blogs. most of them offer the skins in both wordpress or blogger formats and both blogger classic and xml skins.

* http://www.blogskins.com - they have very hip designs but mostly caters to blogger classics which means you will not able to use page elements. their site also breaks which makes it annoying to use at first but once you get familiar with how things work, you wouldn't mind the site being broken.

my skin was from topsy-turvy of blogskins. she's a teenager from singapore who is really very talented and has impressive imagination. you just have to see her works for yourself to understand what im saying. especially if you're a girl -- really, you should. :) i must warn you though, before you do any site-hopping, make sure you have lots of free time in your hands. this can really be VERY addicting.

if you find any cool skins, please send a link for me :) enjoy browsing!

non-toxic memories

today i bought supplies for the kids ministry at church -- glue, oslo papers, 16 non-toxic crayons and folders. we're going to have a puppet show on sunday and i was in charge of some of the props.

i love the stationeries section of the bookstore. that was my hangout place when i was a kid until probably when i was in high school. naaalala ko pa one time... my grade school friends and i would walk from our school to what can be considered our mall back then in novaliches -- the uniwide sales warehouse club! my friends would hang out inside the store and gawk at home appliances or browse through food shelves... ako, i would just stay at the stationery section... inspecting the ballpens and testing them out one by one deciding which one to get... jello or ink? in the end, panda na lang :) by the time i was in high school, i switched to a different kind of ballpen... one that doesnt easily blot out when you drop it: Pilot ballpens! i also tried Bic ballpens at some point and 'yung Kilometriko! haha!

i would enjoy looking at different designs for notebooks (remember the artista notebooks that have springs as bindings?), inspecting the various shapes and sizes and functions of post-its (but never buying any because i could not afford it then) or paper glues (remember elmer's?) or erasers or pencil sharpeners... just deciding which envelope or art paper to buy would take me more than an hour then. ewan ko ba, i feel at home in a stationery store. nung high school, i would visit Gibson's or Goodwill's before i go home (sa SM Annex) and if i was able to purchase a bookmark or a gift wrapper which i could use to decorate an "album", masaya na ako nun haha!

hay, grabe... ang dami ko naaalala just because i went to buy materials for our props.

good memories. masaya :)

why penguins & turtles are no longer best of friends

For a long time Turtle and Penguin were really good friends. They played different sorts of games, went to different places together and ate and shared food with each other. In these games, Penguin would normally always win being the more intelligent of the two. Turtle was the silly one but loved Penguin very much. At some point Turtle thought they were the best of friends.

One seemingly normal early morning, Turtle and Penguin decided to take a walk along the shoreline. Turtle while looking down, noticed Penguin’s two feet. As you probably already know, a penguin's feet are very different from that of a turtle.

Turtle blurted out to his friend, quite happily, “I love your feet.” This is something he had known long ago and something he had already told Penguin even before that morning.

Penguin didn’t say anything and continued to walk. He seemed to smile a bit.

Turtle repeated himself. Did you hear what I said? I said I love your feet. The turtle was happy to say that to his friend.

Penguin said thank you and continued walking as turtle follows closely behind.

Then, without really thinking all that much, Turtle asked his friend, “Is there anything about me that you love?” He was a little surprised himself to be asking that question…

“Is that a trick question?”, inquired the Penguin. He is usually very careful in answering questions.

Turtle simply replied, thinking that he had irritated his friend and hoping to avoid doing anything to ruin the morning, “It was not a trick question. It was just a question….You can say ‘None’ you know…” He tried to smile while saying this.

After a brief pause, Penguin said, “There is no answer…”

Turtle could only say “Oh…” at that point he walked a little slower… and didn't know what to say anymore. He fell a little bit further behind and then started to put his arms and legs back inside his shell. He wondered what will happen next that morning…

Penguin kept going and we’re not sure if he even looked back...

Later that day, Turtle found himself swimming on the ocean to go on about his day… he found comfort in knowing that in the ocean no one would notice the tears in his face.

brightly twisted

when you said hi... when you asked me how i was, how my sunday was... i immediately changed. very few people can turn my dramatic self into my bright self. well... not really few, most of my closest friends and my mom has that effect. im so glad you said hi. i don't really know why im a little dramatic tonight... is it maybe because im in the office on a sunday and working? im sure its not just that. it must be that other thing in my life that i havent quite figured out how to deal with yet. or maybe i have but im just procrastinating, as if waiting for some magical thing to happen that will either erase things or make things okay. as if waking up from a dream. so when you asked how i was... i think the answer should have been this: im okay but also feeling a bit twisted and bit missing you. however, as always, immensely happy to chat with you. i guess now you can say, im brightly twisted. like im lighting up like a neon sign. seriously.

silly, really. but seriously.
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

prayer above was forwarded to me by a friend who seldom (if not never) forwards chain mails. for this one, she made an exception. glad she did. beautiful and humble prayer said to be written by Mother Theresa. hope that you be blessed by this as i was.

running in circles

sometimes i feel like im running in circles. naalala ko what some people say... that life can be compared to a marathon... well, i guess if life is a marathon, then there must be something wrong with the track and field -- it must be made of wet sand :) anyway, seriously... seems like the questions im asking myself lately and the problems im facing were the same questions and problems i have encountered not too long ago... in fact, maybe just a few months or weeks ago... to be honest, it gets a little frustrating... especially since im not getting any younger :)

pero what's ironic is that, im still hopeful. i think it's an even crazier idea to give up on ourselves because there's a God who believes in us... the same God who is the Creator and Lord of this entire universe, would never think of giving up on us and who has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. truly an awesome God who remains faithful, no matter how unfaithful we sometimes can be...

i may really not know so much about life and much of how it goes, but here's something i know for sure: whenever i think of my problems and compare them to the God who is gracious and loving enough to allow us to call Him "our Father", somehow things seem a little less crazy and this track and field we're all running on (more like trudging on, really) become a lot less daunting. life may really be a marathon after all, and guess what, our number one cheer leader, the one who holds the banner that says "we can make it" is none other than the same all-knowing God in control of everything. if that is the case, then i guess i can make it through the finish line after all.

flowery things

photos taken from an overnight stay at laguna last month. i like taking pictures of nature and flowers talaga. i don't know why... maganda lang talaga for me... im really a nature-lover and i've always found the works of our Creator really amazing and inspiring. dapat siguro magtanim na rin ako ng mga ganito sa bakuran namin sa novaliches, hehe. hay... wala lang. ang ganda for me. sana magustuhan nyo rin :)
