Remember how the tears won't flow while your body trembles. As if the soul aches to separate from your being. Out of reluctance. A soul not shattered, but made smaller. Shriveled.
Remember how you were made silent and humbled. Out of pain, and sadness and maybe disgrace. Brought by your own mistakes. And his.
Remember how you shivered. Remember how you sought for cover and stillness and rest; how you fought hard to be unafraid, to remain hopeful. Remember how easily your heart broke by thoughtless words and careless actions and how hard it was to mend. Harder each time it breaks again.
But also, remember his own brokenness and his tears, his embrace and how he tried to be silent to keep things from falling completely apart. For you. Remember this and try never to be bitter.
