when i was in the US, one of my favorite commercials was that of an internet or broadband service provider. i can't exactly remember the name of the provider (but maybe 'Comcast') but the commercial (which to me is pretty hilarious) features two old-looking turtles, a husband-turtle and a wife-turtle (called the Slowsky's), and goes something like this:
the husband-turtle and the wife-turtle are both facing in front, as if being interviewed by the camera man. they seem to be talking to a customer service representative and are complaining about their internet downloads being 'too fast' and that well, (turtles paused and then looked at each other for a brief moment), 'they felt rushed' :) poor turtles!
well, anyway... i am telling this story about the Slowsky's to describe how i recenlty felt while riding a scooter. this happened the same day as the isaw day (see previous post). We were inside a campus kaya malakas ang loob ko. one of our friends brought his scooter and we (the girls) thought it would be fun if we could try it out. doubting my balance skills and knowing that i could easily get nervous or skittish, i decided to just ride in the back and let my friend do the driving, thinking to myself how easy breezy it would be. after all, this is just a scoot, not a motorbike.... and from what i know, scoots are sort of girly -- but no, i was wrong in thinking this. that scoot is quite different. ang bilis nya talaga! my friend who owns that scoot, explained to me, that although it's only a scoot, it's still quite "powerful". as soon as we started moving, he made sure that we would run fast, and as soon as i realized how fast we were, nagtititili na ako! scandalous talaga!
i think we were only driving at 50-60kph, pero to me that was fast enough. my heart was really pounding and i was screaming the whole time lalo na nung may humps at lumiko kami papuntang UP Film Center. nahilo talaga ang mundo ko. i was really panicking, my hands started to feel cold and numb and just like the Slowsky's "i felt rushed", haha! true, i was excited but also very scared. while all this was happening, yung driver naman tuwang-tuwa pa! argh! i wasn't wearing a helmet then and i think that contributed to why i was panicking that much.
grabe no, i dont have any lessons learned here really, gusto ko lang i-share yung experience. although here's what i think: im starting to believe that the more we grow older, the more we become afraid to try new things. how sad! is it because we're too afraid of dealing with any hospital bills? :) i really don't know...pero from now on, no more scooters or motorbikes for me -- promise -- at least not without any helmets and drivers who seem to enjoy seeing me suffer or panic :p

that's pretty fast for a scooter.
